Mental health help for undocumented students


There is help available if you are experiencing anxiety, depression, fear over immigration enforcements, uncertainty over your future, bullying, violence or abuse of any form, or harassment. Here are some free and confidential resources where you can talk to someone.

TXT 4 Help

  • TXT 4 HELP works anywhere in the US, and extends access to safety for teens. TXT 4 HELP can be used for the same reason a young person may go to a Safe Place site - abuse, bullying, family problems, depression, suicidal thoughts, and others. TXT 4 HELP counselors can provide support via text, and can offer additional suggestions for immediate help regardless of where you are.

The Trevor Project - LGBTQ+ youth

  • The Trevor Project operates the only nationwide, around-the-clock crisis and suicide prevention helpline for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. The Trevor Helpline is available as a resource to parents, family members and friends of young people as well.

YouthLine

  • A free 24-hour crisis, support, and helpline for youth. YouthLine is a peer-to-peer youth crisis and support service provided by Lines for Life—a non-profit dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. YouthLine operates a national helpline that provides crisis support and referrals via call, text, and chat. The helpline is answered by youth daily from 4pm-10pm and by adults at all other times.

On-campus mental health support in college

UC campuses

The UCs have designed counseling and psychological services (CAPS) for ALL students, including DACA recipients and undocumented students. CAPS is committed to embracing and celebrating diversity that works towards the inclusivity and belongingness for all students on UC campuses. 

CSU campuses

At each CSU campus, mental health services are available for undocumented students. Counseling centers provide direct services, outreach and prevention services, and campus consultation services.
